Country music singer Jason Aldeen was one of 19 people hit with $100 fines for swimming in the Gulf of Mexico under double red flags, and he wasn’t very happy about it.
“Dear officer who gave me a ticket on the beach today for swimming in the water with double red flags.. Thanx for the warning Barney Fife!” he wrote on his Facebook page. Then, later, he wrote, “I know he was doin his job, but im pretty sure i wouldnt drown in knee deep water. Gimme a break!”
According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, lifeguards in South Walton County beach in the Florida panhandle ordered everyone on the beach to stay out of the water as the high-warning double red flags were posted because of rip currents. Bad weather had made swimming dangerous for the last week, and two teens had drowned in Gulf waters.
Aldeen’s posts on Facebook and Twitter resulted in tens of thousands of interactions from fans, some of whom scolded him for his actions. In the end, Aldeen said he was surprised by the reaction.
On Twitter, he posted: “Didnt realize my lil ticket would cause such a stir!!!! Lol!must be a slow news day.”
And finally, “Ya’ll gettin way too worked up over this.. I was just havin fun & joking then everybody started goin crazy. Simmer down peeps it’s all good.”
