Crayfish Bay, Grenada – CanStock Photo

In the past, this tropical island of 100,000, only about 100 miles northeast of Venezuela, was possibly best known for the 1983 U.S. military action ordered by President Reagan during a period of intense political unrest. But today, with a growing tourism industry and much more political stability, the focus is on the 46 white sand beaches that circumvent this idyllic paradise.

Whether you want secluded beaches or more active ones surrounded by resorts and restaurants, Grenada has it all.

Cruise ships are frequent visitors  St. George’s, with passengers spilling over into the markets and shops. Many  make a beeline to Grand Anse Beach with its two-mile stretch of sand. There they will find the luxurious Spice Island Beach Resort.

There are 46 beaches in Grenada, but according to, the top six are:

  • Grand Anse Beach: “You will be hard pressed to find a more spectacular beach anywhere in the world.
  • Morne Rouge Beach (BBC Beach): “Holidays aside, this is one beach you can have all to yourself. “
  • Magazine Beach: “The beach is about one mile of white sand, and clear blue waters.”
  • Pink Gin Beach: “Pinkish sand, pristine waters and a picturesque view of St. George welcomes you at Pink Gin Beach.
  • Bathway Beach: “If you are looking for action … people, food, drinks, and just good times.”
  • La Sagesse Beach: “Most people come here when they do not want to be seen, or disturbed.
