Two commercial fishermen hauled in a gigantic 20-foot, 2,000-pound great white shark while fishing in the Sea of Cortez near Guaymas, Mexico. The fishermen said the enormous shark was dead in their net when they brought it to the surface. The fish was nearly as long as their 22-foot skiff so they put their their 75 HP motor to the test, towing the huge shark two miles to shore, where a crowd of surprised beach-goers helped drag it to dry land. According to reports there is some dispute about its size and weight but everyone who saw it – and the pictures confirm – it is a massive fish. If it is 20 feet long, it would be one of the largest great white sharks ever recorded.
The Pisces Fleet Sportsfishing Blog, operated by the fishing business based in Cabo San Lucas, identified the fishermen as Guadalupe and Baltazar and said, “They swore they had never seen a fish this big before in their lives.”
“We were amazed and immediately realized that we had a huge, dead, great white shark, and then we thought what are we going to do?,” Guadalupe told Pisces. The photos on this page were posted to the San Carlos Mexico online forum.
