Beach-goers near Carlsbad, California, couldn’t believe their eyes when they looked up to the skies to see the Caped Crusader soaring smoothly and quickly over the sand and water in his famous flying pose and blue and red colors. It turns out the radio-controlled figure as was the work of Otto Dieffenbach III, a former Air Force test pilot who told reporters that he has built about a dozen radio-controlled characters. Dieffenbach said he had been flying his inventions for about a year and half without anyone much noticing. Then, a bicyclist with a smart phone decided to take a short video of The Man of Steel’s flight over the beach and posted it to the Internet, causing it to go went viral and bringing notoriety to the surprised engineer.
Below is the video originally posted by bicyclist Kyle Gough on Live Leak. Gough wrote”: “I was cycling with my buddy down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and during our casual conversation … Superman flew by. We stopped, got off our bikes just in time to watch him land. After a quick battery change, I grabbed the only thing I had on me (my cell phone, sorry for the … quality) and took some video of what is EASILY the coolest custom RC plane I’ve ever seen. Damn near life-size and complete with a cape… I don’t usually post to LiveLeak but I couldn’t keep this video to myself.”
