This enchanting, peaceful Caribbean island – about 190 miles east of Puerto Rico – is made up approximately 60% of the northern French Saint Martin and 40% the southern Dutch Sint Maarten. It is a rich mix of Dutch, French, Asian, Afrian and American cultures. Although just 37 square miles, the island has 37 beaches of every style for every taste. What is common among them is beautiful tropical scenery and clear, pristine waters. Swimming, snorkeling and diving are popular activities throughout the island. Among the best beaches are:

Best Saint Martin beaches:

Pinel Island / Yellow Beach on the east coast. This is a tropical paradise, with shallow, calm and clear waters. Take a ferry from the dock at the end of the road at French Cul de Sac. Beautiful coral reefs with an underwater trail for snorkeling.

Orient Bay on the east coast. This scenic beach offers a variety of water sports activities and a bar scene. It is also clothing-opitonal on the southern edge.

Baie de l’Embouchure/Galion Beach on the east coast. This crescent-shaped beach is an excellent spot for the family, with the waters protected by a reef. This is a popular spot for windsurfing because the water is generally calm but you can catch a good breeze.

Happy Bay on the northwest coast. This is a secluded oasis with few amenities.

Baie Longue (Long Beach) on the west coast. This is a long, quiet stretch of sand. The exclusive La Samana hotel, which is know for hosting celebrities, can be found the beach, and so can the celebrities. A nice selection of fish here for snorkelers as well.

Best Sint Maarten beaches:

Cupecoy Beach on the west coast. This beach, surrounded by scenic rock formations, features welcoming caves. There are no restaurants or bars on this beach, just the type of scenery you will never forget. The far end of the beach is clothing-optional.

Dawn Beach on the east coast. From here you can see the neighboring island of St. Barts in the distance, but most of your time will be spent snorkeling and windsurfing.
