Tulum. Beach Maniac Photo.

Tulum is, of course, best known for the amazing Mayan ruins. What most people don’t know is that just below and to the south of the ruins are some great beaches. If you’re touring the ruins, you can access a small beach from a wooden stairway from behind the center of the ruins. It’s nice, but the better beaches are to the south of the ruins, along the road that goes to Boca Paila. You can access the beaches through the cabana resorts along the road. The sand is powdery with isolated rocks and the water is warm but the waves can be rough at time. Snorkeling is pretty good when the sea is calm. Those in know caution that you should be careful not to leave any valuables in your car. If you’re interested in nude sunbathing, or want to avoid such an area, word is that it is common near Cabanas Copal and at Azulik.
