If your idea of a trip to paradise means “getting away from it all,” you might not be too impressed by this. But if you like to combine your Caribbean vacation with business or just like to stay connected with the rest of the world at all times, you may be overjoyed to find out that on at least one Caribbean island you can now access free Wi-Fi anyplace you go, from the beach to the rum shop. That’s right, Barbados is now offering free Wi-Fi island-wide. It is what island officials say is as part of “the national vision to make the country the #1 entrepreneurial hub in the world by 2020.”
This is how the Barbados Toursim Authority put its: “The initiative is expected to make an immediate impact by raising the internet literacy and competency of all Bajans and by creating a better and more convenient tourism product for visitors. Next time you’re on the island, log on for free. It’s just another example of how Barbados continues to perfect the art of living. Now and for the future.”
We have two questions:
1. Do you know of any other remote vacation destinations that offer such widespread free Wi-Fi?
2. What do you think? Do you want to be able to access free Wi-Fi when you’re on vacation? Or would you just as soon log off for a few days?
